URGENT CARE

Same-day appointments are available for established patients for minor emergencies and acute illnesses.  To avoid excessive waiting time, call 363-3627 for an appointment.  If you walk in without an appointment, we will do our best to see you within a reasonable period of time.

PRESCRIPTIONS

Office visits are usually required for prescription refills.  The prescription will indicate the appropriate number of refills.  Additional refills are not routinely authorized over the phone. If a prescription request is faxed from the pharmacy to the clinic, please allow at least 48 hours from the time of request for prescriptions to be completed.  Please do not call the office prior to that time.  When you are on your last refill, call to schedule an appointment.  For those with mail order pharmacy benefits, please anticipate your needs.  We do not call in to 1-800 pharmacy numbers, and it may take up to two weeks for your prescription to be filled.

DRUGS REQUIRING PREAUTHORIZATION

Sometimes, when we prescribe a drug, your insurance company will not approve payment unless we obtain their approval, a process called preauthorization. This is often a very time intensive process that requires our staff to spend excessive amounts of time processing paperwork or waiting on a phone, instead of caring for patients in the office. For this reason, we will usually try to change your prescription to a similar drug that will work just as well. If there is not an acceptable substitute drug, and we agree to do the preauthorization, please be patient with us as we work our way through the appropriate channels for your benefit.

AFTER-HOURS COVERAGE

For after-hours and weekend problems, we have a call-sharing arrangement with other physicians in the area.  The on-call physician should be called only if your problem is of such urgency that it cannot wait until you see your regular physician.  The on-call physician will usually not call in pain medication, antibiotics or prescription refills.  Please anticipate your needs, especially for weekends and holidays. To reach the on-call doctor, please call 363-3627.  If your problem is a life-threatening medical emergency, call 911 or go directly to the Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.  Their phone number is 375-4440.
